high five for friday

TGIF! Random note: there has been a lot of rain this week in Dallas.  I have loved most of it.  It hasn’t been a big storm or anything, just some rain…much needed rain!  I know there have been giant storms in the Carolinas, but Dallas has been rain free since May, I feel like.

1. On Sunday, several of my best girlfriends and I went to brunch and to get pedicures.  This was some great much-needed girl time!  I went with an Essie color that I am embarrassed to say I can’t even remember the name.  (see below for evidence)  We had a great time chatting about this and that and the occasional political topic.  We were pretty bummed when the rain started and the pool day was canceled…but this was a great second place activity!

2. My friend, Elizabeth, gave me a few Lilly Pulitzer items last week and I am thrilled to have them!  This dress has polka dot and check crustaceans on it, what could be better?!?

3.  Tried the new Starbucks iced peach green tea lemonade this week.  one word…YUM!  It really tastes like summer!! (totally meant to capture a picture…but it was so delish that I was distracted and forgot…I guess you will have to take my word for it!)

4.  Went to dinner at one of my favorites, Twisted Root Burger with my college roommate last night.  So delish, as usual.  She is so sweet and treated me to dinner as a belated birthday present.  She is such a positive friend and always puts me in a great mood!  I went a little non traditional this time…turkey burger…but it was soo  good!

5.  I learned how to list items on eBay this week.  I only have a few items posted as a sort of trial run – so exciting to be on the other side of eBay.  I love shopping, so selling is a whole new ball game that seems pretty fun!  Take a look:  http://www.ebay.com/sch/vls628/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686

high five for friday

So a large part of my week revolved around food, which I’m sure doesn’t surprise anyone about me.  Consider yourselves warned.

1. Met some of our oldest friends at  Saint Ann for a drink.  Miss Martha and my Mama have been friends for pretty much my entire life.  Naturally, Miss Martha’s daughter, Lauren, and I are friends too!  However, we (Lauren & I) had not seen each other in pretty much 10+ years.  It was great to catch up even though it was just for a short time!  Lauren was in town on business and had to jet off to a company dinner.

Davis & SteiblePlease notice the black and white accidental twins…why and I not surprised?!

2.  My sweet friend Erika of Erika’s Tea Cup came into town and we got a group together for a girls night.  She lives in North Carolina, so naturally, we had a Tex Mex dinner at Meso Maya.  We took up residence on the patio for 2+ hours and had a great time catching up, laughing A LOT and trying not to melt in the stifling heat & humidity.

3. The Bachelorette was the source of lots of laugher and heckling Monday night.  My friend Stephanie and I spent half the time trying to tell all of the men apart from each other (there are a lot of look a likes this season), but all in all she had a couple of cute one on one dates and one rap group date, that let’s face it, should probably have never happened.  A group of us tend to gather for watching parties and I hope that this starts back up for the remainder of Desire’s season!

4.  Went to dinner tonight with my college roommate, Kacie, and we branched out and went to Pop Diner.  While the food left some to be desired, we had fun with our whimsical drinks.  I had a Pop Rocks Martini and Kacie had a Blow Pop Martini.  Mine was actually popping as it arrived at our table.

5.  The  Tony Awards happen this Sunday night, and I can’t wait!  Neil Patrick Harris hosting, show tunes, AND dancing…what could be better?!?

With a trip to Ikea and a little pool time are in my sites for this weekend, all I can say is TGIF!

high five for friday

This week came and went all too quickly.  Did you have that kind of week too?

1.  Before my aunt left town we made a trip to City Craft.  My aunt is planning to redecorate her kitchen and play up its retro feel.  We needed a fabric that looked like a step back in time and full of whimsy.  City Craft is by far the my favorite place  to snag great quality fabric this is beautiful and interesting to boot.  It was tough to leave behind the turquoise and pink print with 1950s telephones on it, but we did find a great geometric print that will compliment her red countertops and is less girly.

2.. Sunday night, my Mama and I got to enjoy her Christmas present….tickets to Wicked! It was wonderful, as usual.  This was my fourth and her third time seeing the show.  Yes, I’m a musical theater girl, what can I say, it’s in my blood.  It’s always fun to have a mother/daughter date and this was no exception.  Nothing like a night at a musical to make me miss dancing.

3. Being at City Craft put the sewing bug back in me!  I can’t wait to show you the results!  Bear with me, I am out of practice so it’s a little slow going. But the machine is out and the sewing has begun.

4. I took a little time for myself this week.  With all of the hustle and bustle around me it was great to just have some time to sit, relax, and catch up on my shows.  2 episodes of Smash and 3 of Nashville later, I am almost caught up!  Don’t worry, it wasn’t all sitting, there was some sewing time mixed!

5. This is a little bit different for me to share, but I can’t resist.  Lauren really spoke to me with her post on Wednesday.  Take a moment to read it, you won’t be sorry! Although I am not a cat lady, the message rings true and takes a weight off my shoulders.  Isn’t it funny how God can put things in your life at just the right time?

high five for friday

This has been such a fun week. I am so glad to get to share it with y’all!

1. I spent my weekend doing basically nothing, which was wonderful.  I hung around the house, did some laundry, and spent lots of time reading blogs – there are so many gems out there!

2. I watched a movie with my mama –  This Means War starring Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine, and Tom Hardy.  It was a fun comedy with some great eye candy – Pine and Hardy.  Reese Witherspoon’s wardrobe for this movie pretty much acts as a wish list for my closet.

3. Our family friends were in town this week visiting my cousins.  Most of the girls of this group (myself included) got to spend time catching up and chatting out to dinner.  Good thing my cousin had homework to get back to or we might still be there chatting until this very moment.

4.  This week I was lucky enough to be featured in the Need, Read, Greed series of One Fine Day.  It was so much fun to share my picks! (More on that here.)

5. Ran in to TJ Max to look for a cute storage container for my bathroom counter, ended up going on a TJ Max shopping spree.  Why am I not surprised?!  This was a particularly fruitful trip.  Suffice it to say I left with a cute storage container  plus several housewares and a variety of tops. I will share more of that soon!

Hope you all had great weeks!

I can’t believe we are already in March!  Also, we spring forward this weekend – while I am excited for a little more light in the evenings, the lost hour of sleep will be sorely missed.

1.  I spent some quality time with my little pup, Tweed.

Tweed eating

Isn’t he just the sweetest eating his dinner?! (might be a crazy dog mama, can’t help it!)

2. I worked out twice this week.  This is a HUGE accomplishment.  Working on making it a habit, wish me luck!

3. It is only 2 weeks until BlissDom. Can’t wait! Already planning my outfits! Too soon?!

4. My TV addiction runs deep.  This is proved by the sheer joy that washed over me watching the premiere of The Rachel Zoe Project.  To put it in her words, it was MAJOR.  Her collection was beautiful.  Also, we caught a glimpse of Oscar De La Renta & Michael Kors new collections.  Oscar was to die for as per usual.  Michael Kors featured LOTs of stripes and a 60s vibe.  But, I digress.

5. I broke down (mine current case is getting dingy) and ordered a new iPhone case this week – can’t wait for its arrival! – I will definitely debut it as soon as it arrives!

Hope y’all have a great weekend!

This has been a crazy work week, but that just makes it that much sweeter that its Friday!

1. Two nights of The Bachelor this week – could there be anything better?

2. My dad came over and we worked on my washer, yet again! Last time we thought it was level and pulled together and it walked right out of the closet on the first wash.  So, fingers crossed it lasts longer this time! This thing is gonna be the death of me.

3. My Birchbox arrived this week! Always a fun treat! More on that soon! But, I have to say my favorite item is the Twistband headband…its great!

4. I’m feeling super official – I ordered business cards this week so that I am ready to swap with the wonderful bloggers I will meet at BlissDom.  Jumping in with both feet and loving it.

5. It’s Oscar time this weekend.  Its one of my favorite Sundays of the year! I cannot wait!

Here we are at my third #h54f!

1. I have been in a battle with my washing machine for a while now.  Currently, it’s a losing battle.  tile floor plus plastic washer feet = slippery, so I added rubber feet….no dice…now it walks out of its closet and is really hard for me to move back because of the rubber feet…..any and ALL suggestions welcome 🙂 please and thank you!  Take a look at the culprit and my rant on instagram.

2. I FINALLY got my hair cut!! It was WAY overdue.  (Sorry for the lack of picture….I have a lot to learn about taking pictures of myself)  The cut wasn’t extreme or anything, but the fresh ends are worth every penny.  Also, I just love getting my hair cut & styled.  There is just something so relaxing about having your hair washed and head massaged followed by a cut and blow out.  just the best! This can be a stressful time for some…but I have gone to the same stylist for 10+ years and we know each other very well and she never steers me wrong.

3. I have become throughly engrossed in Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks.  It’s a great story and I am less than a week away from the movie hitting theaters…its crunch time people!

4. Starting to get really excited about BlissDom 2013.  I am planning on spending some quality time this weekend prepping and learning more about the conference. AND of course beginning to plot my outfits for the event!

5.  I am READY for the weekend! I spent a lot of time this week helping Mama (yes, that’s what I call my mom….let’s be serious…this is Texas people) prep for the open house for her new business Let’s Craft Together by Blue Parfait.  She will be teaching several craft classes a month with different themes and projects.  More on that to come, but its an exciting time for her! I have to say I am dog tired.

1. I have ALWAYS wanted to have a #h54f post! Ever since I first read one on both The Small Things Blog & From My Grey Desk Blog.  This is a dream come true! I read each of these blogs daily and they were my inspiration for starting my own. Sisters Kate and Lauren each share a unique point of view on their lives, fashion, hairstyles, & make up.  From the bottom of my heart I have to thank each of them for giving me the guts to give this a try myself.  Also, for the candid honesty of their posts.

2. I did it…I started the blog.  That in and of itself is a big accomplishment.  It is a learning process but I am really loving it so far.    Can’t wait to delve in further.

3.  This week I made 2 home-made dinners.  Those of you who know me understand what an accomplishment this is.

4. two words…chik-fil-a breakfast…need i say more?

5.  Looking forward to many home improvement projects over the weekend.  Let’s hope this energy lasts long enough to accomplish many things! I will keep you posted
