can’t get enough of golden globes fashion

Here we are again, one of my favorite times of the year….AWARDS SEASON!!! It combines several of my loves, fashion, films, and TV.  The People’s Choice Awards were on this past week, but I am not sure they count.  Yes, I am an awards show purist.   The Golden Globes kicked off the season in style, especially this year!  I can’t remember a time when I have LOVED this many gowns at one event.  There were several dapper men as well.

There were so many gems that it is hard to share just a few!

Julianna Margulies – Andrew Gn – Black and gold ball gown.  The gold coral accents were just perfect to make it one of the most elegant gowns of the evening.  The look was completed with stunning chandelier earrings and a low chignon.  I would wear this dress in a heartbeat!

Sofia-Vergara-In-Zac-Posen-2014-Golden-Globe-Awards

Sofia Vergara – Zac Posen and Lorraine Schwartz – black ball gown with huge turquoise collar necklace.  The slightly dropped waist gave a wonderful spotlight moment to the necklace that I am dying to have.  Turquoise is one of my all time favorites, especially in formal settings.  Also, I loved that she worn her hair down.  This allowed the necklace to show even more than it would have if her hair was pulled back.

Michelle Dockery – Oscar De La Renta – what could be better for the Lady Mary than and this asymmetrical hemmed beauty.  The dramatic lipstick really completed the look with her super dark hair.  Oscar’s gown acted as its own jewelry with the beautiful gold accents.

Sandra-Bullock-Golden-Globes-2014

Sandra Bullock – Prabal Gurung – This color block gown was a little more playful than we are used to seeing on Sandra Bullock.  In my opinion this was one of the most wonderful gowns of the evening.  I especially love the pink peeking out from the underside of the skirt.  This small detail really finishes the gown.   Some people may not have loved this look, but I think she killed it!

Taylor Swift – Carolina Herrera – While I am not always in love with TSwift’s choices in fashion, this gown was stunning.  The lipstick pink red gown with black bodice was both age appropriate and elegant.  Here softly styled hair and signature red lipstick really complimented soft waves of the fabric of the gown.

On to the gorgeous men…

Bradley-Cooper-Golden-Globes-2014

Bradley Cooper – Tom Ford – Between his blue eyes and this tux, I don’t know what could be better.

Matthew-McConaughey-Golden-Globes-2014

image

Matthew McConaughey – Dolce & Gabbana – Three words: Velvet tux jacket.  Velvet is one of my faves, especially when it is worn by this good-looking Texan.  It takes the tux to a new level of formal and I like it.

Finally, a shout out to my love of navy & black.  Oddly enough, dear Seth Myers of SNL was one showing off this perfect combination.

I could go on and on, but I will stop and wait anxiously for the next gem of the award season – the SAG awards.

Is online window shopping a thing?

In an effort to be more of a saver and less of a spender, I have decided to start online window shopping.  My sweet friend Erika taught me this phrase “online window shopping.”  I’ve adopted it because it is just oh so clever! For me, its WAY more safe than window shopping in the traditional sense.  I keep my wallet FAR out of arms reach, which really isn’t possible at the actual mall.

I am very ready for some fall weather.  I’m getting to the point of the summer where all of my clothes are feeling very blah and over worn.  Fall fashion is everywhere these days, which doesn’t help my situation.   With the September issues of all of the glossies hitting stores, I long for a few new treasures for my closet.  Hence, the online window shopping.  Tonight’s find: H&M.

H&M is a favorite of mine, especially as far as fast fashion goes.   This fall will be no exception.   I hope these items hop into my closet at some point this fall!   After spending over an hour checking out everything, I have reigned it in to nine items I would like love to own!

H&M Fall Collage

grey blouse / 20s dress / cape
imitation leather skirt  / shirt dress / Jacquard pants
leopard wristlet / imitation leather pants / leopard pumps
  • This grey blouse would be so pretty for the fall with these great Theory raspberry tweed skinny suit pants my mom gave me for my birthday.  Add a pair of patent mary-janes and the outfit is complete!
  • Ever since I saw The Great Gatsby, I have been enthralled with all things deco 20s/early 30s.  I imagine this dress with long strands of pearls, dark black tights and yet again, black patent mary-janes.  (Can you tell I live in my patent mary-janes in the fall/winter)
  • I have wanted a winter cape for several years now.  Then I saw Heather Dubrow (Real Housewives of Orange County) wearing one on the episode where they went to select Tamra’s wedding dress.  Needless to say, I have been counting down the days until the fall so that I can scoop one up for myself.  This might be just the ticket!
  • I am really excited about this imitation leather skirt because it keeps a look I love in my budget! Imagine this with a lipstick pink chiffon blouse tucked in, black tights, and wedge boots.  Come to think of it, I might want a new pair of boots to wear with this ensemble, but I digress.
  • I am mad for plaid!  I would love this with some chocolate-brown tights and caramel riding boots.  Casual and still pulled together for an outing with friends.  I bet it would be really cute with denim skinnys too!
  • It’s hard to tell, but there is a pattern in the weave of these pants.  It adds a richness and depth to closet staple.  They would be perfect for day-to-night, or even a holiday party.  Bleh, holiday party…its still 100 degrees outside…what am i thinking?!
  • My new favorite small bag for a night on the town is a wristlet.  I know I am a little late for the party on this one.  The patent leopard would go with just about anything!
  • These imitation black leather pants are just beyond.  I imagine them with a sparkly top for a night on the town!  The perfect piece to update my wardrobe for Fall 2013!
  • Leopard remains top dog in my book.  These pumps would be great for work to add some color my fall wardrobe. What can I say, my go to color is black – year round!

What ‘s calling your name for the fall?

TGIF friends!  This is the end of the full week of July…how did we get here?!

1. Spent a lot of (much-needed) quality time with my friends this weekend.  Friday night we saw one of our favorite Dallas bands perform!  We were too busy dancing to get any pictures.

2. On Saturday night we celebrated the upcoming nuptials of Steph & Doug at a Stock the Bar shower.  It was so much fun to get a little dressed up and have a party!  Bonus:  we had some of the BEST cake balls I have ever eaten from Trailercakes.

3.  Celebrated my sweet little Tweed’s 4th birthday this week.  He got a great present…a new Nylabone.  He loves it and I love him!

high five for friday

TGIF! Random note: there has been a lot of rain this week in Dallas.  I have loved most of it.  It hasn’t been a big storm or anything, just some rain…much needed rain!  I know there have been giant storms in the Carolinas, but Dallas has been rain free since May, I feel like.

1. On Sunday, several of my best girlfriends and I went to brunch and to get pedicures.  This was some great much-needed girl time!  I went with an Essie color that I am embarrassed to say I can’t even remember the name.  (see below for evidence)  We had a great time chatting about this and that and the occasional political topic.  We were pretty bummed when the rain started and the pool day was canceled…but this was a great second place activity!

2. My friend, Elizabeth, gave me a few Lilly Pulitzer items last week and I am thrilled to have them!  This dress has polka dot and check crustaceans on it, what could be better?!?

photo (20)

3.  Tried the new Starbucks iced peach green tea lemonade this week.  one word…YUM!  It really tastes like summer!! (totally meant to capture a picture…but it was so delish that I was distracted and forgot…I guess you will have to take my word for it!)

4.  Went to dinner at one of my favorites, Twisted Root Burger with my college roommate last night.  So delish, as usual.  She is so sweet and treated me to dinner as a belated birthday present.  She is such a positive friend and always puts me in a great mood!  I went a little non traditional this time…turkey burger…but it was soo  good!

5.  I learned how to list items on eBay this week.  I only have a few items posted as a sort of trial run – so exciting to be on the other side of eBay.  I love shopping, so selling is a whole new ball game that seems pretty fun!  Take a look:  http://www.ebay.com/sch/vls628/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686

high five for friday

TGIF!  Finally it’s Friday! Yay!  Friday could not have come soon enough this week.

1.  Today is my Dad’s birthday! Happy Birthday to you Papa!  He loves to cook rather than go out to eat, so I am sure this weekend will be filled with many home cooked meals.  (Trust me, I’m not complaining!)

2.  I made a purchase on eBay a couple of weeks ago and it arrived this week – new to me Lilly Pulitzer pants!  The are a smidge big, but so cute a fun! Plus I got a great deal, so heading to the tailor for a few alterations won’t be a big deal.

photo (19)

3. Picked up my sweet friend, Stephanie’s French Bulldog, Henry,  from boarding and hung out with him for a few hours on Sunday.  He is hysterical!  He loves riding in the car – he just lays down and falls asleep.  He is shockingly strong for his size…he was definitely the one taking me for a walk on the leash not the other way around.

photo (18)

4.  My parents had my grandparents over for dinner one night this week and I joined them.  It’s always fun to get to hang out with all of them.  My grandparents just returned from a vacation so we got the full run down of the trip.  Tweed loves seeing them too!

5.  I hope to be able to carve out a bit of time to keep working on my new top!  I am sewing a pretty advanced (at least for me) pattern.  I will share all about how this project goes when it is complete.  I can’t wait to get the top finished – I have a whole outfit in my mind that I am dying to wear!

project time

You know how you start a project and think, oh this will take like 5 hours or so, and then you actually work on the project and it takes you 3+ days?!?  No, just me?!  Well, this is exactly how the painting project went this past weekend.

It started off great.  Step 1 – turn up the jams, obviously.  Step 2 – move the furniture to the other side of the room.  Step 3 – tape the walls so that I don’t paint on the ceiling, wood work, etc.  (This took a long time but went off with out a hitch)

photo (15)

Step 4 – spread drop cloths and paint.  This was easier than expected.  I have to say I felt a bit like I was on TLC’s Trading Spaces (the home improvement show I grew up on) painting walls, except they are my walls not my friend or neighbor’s walls.  If only Paige Davis was here to help and cheer me on!  Ty Pennington (pre – Extreme Makeover Home Edition)was not here to be my carpenter….I mean a girl can dream.  The good news –  I only hit the ceiling with the roller once! After completing the painting,  I removed the tape and the walls were complete.

almost done

Here is where things got a little dicey.  I went to plug back in my internet and cable cords and nothing…whole kit and caboodle done-zo.  Those of you who know me, know that I am BEYOND obsessed with TV and have mine on almost all the time when I am home.  So, this system being down was not making me happy.  Internet is also a vital part of my life, too, especially when I needed to chat with the tech support people who no longer talk on the phone, but rather online chat with you to resolve you cable/internet problems.  So, long story short, they had to send out a tech to fix the problem.  Which they did, on a Sunday no less.  Much appreciated, trust me!  Well, during all of these issues, the furniture couldn’t be moved back into its rightful homes because it would block the repair work.  Enter, the work week.

Fast forward to Wednesday night after work.  My Dad came over and replaced the outlets and switch plates in the room and helped me move the furniture, he’s pretty handy like that.  So, the furniture is now in place.  I know what you’re thinking, now onto the end result picture…how about a really its still a work in progress picture…take a look.

high five for friday

What a great week, birthday, wedding, road trip, and the 4th! Sheesh that’s a lot when I look back at it.

1.  Friday was my birthday.  After a quick breakfast and hair cut, I hopped in the car and headed down to Austin for the weekend.  I stayed in Georgetown with longtime family friends who pampered me for my birthday left and right!  It was SO sweet of them!

2. My friend Joanna got married on Saturday and I had the honor of doing a reading and being in her house party.  It was so much fun!  The bride and groom are high school sweethearts so it is about time the tied the knot.    Joanna and I bonded over numerous group projects, groups papers (yes, apparently that is a thing) and History of Costume flashcards in college and have been friends ever since.  Here we are at the rehearsal dinner and then at reception.

photo (14)photo (13)

3.  Sunday I spent the day with our family friends.  We drank tea from their visit to England, made delicious orange muffins (I mostly supervised), and went to a GREAT burger joint, Mighty Fine Burger.  Also, we watched their dog, Sister, run around the backyard constantly on the hunt for prey.  Luckily she didn’t find any this time, although I hear she definitely wins in battles against birds.  I was sad to have to pack up and head back to the Big D.

4.  Hope everyone had a great 4th!  Tweed was VERY patriotic in his stars and stripes bandana.  Still loving his new haircut, by the way – shorter ears are the way to go!

photo (12)

5.  My goal for the weekend is to at least paint the last 2 walls of my bedroom.  I hope that by writing this here, I will have the accountability and push I need to complete this task.  Wish me luck!!

there’s something looming on the horizon

I cashed in some credit card points for an Amazon gift card.  What a perfect excuse to purchase a few new (some used) books!  Since my love of sewing has been renewed, I picked up several sewing books.  I ordered several used books, and so they are slowly arriving at my doorstep from across the USA.  Today’s arrival has me sew excited! (See what I did there.)

sewing edges and corners

Sewing Edges & Corners (Decorative Techniques for Your Home and Wardrobe) by Linda Lee.

I can’t wait to try out some of these techniques.  I would love to make a really large pillow with box corners.  This would make a great bed for Tweed!  I would love to use mitered corners on curtains (which are high on my to do list to complete my condo decor).  Finally, I would like to make euro shams for my bed with flanged edges.  Each of these is explained in this book.  Can you tell I am super excited about this?!

I will report back when projects are complete!  Man, I love Amazon and today, the used books option in particular.

TGIF Friends!!

1.  Did some organizing this weekend…just the tip of the iceberg, but you have to start somewhere, right?!

photo (8)

2. Spent some time this weekend preparing for one of my college friend’s wedding this weekend! I cannot wait to celebrate the marriage of two high school sweethearts!  I will be doing a reading during the ceremony, wish me luck and say a little prayer that the words flow freely.

3. Tweed had a bath and much-needed haircut and looks so fresh and clean now.  I love it when his apricot shows!

Clean Tweed

4.  Spent Thursday night with some of my closest friends at a concert at the Dallas Arboretum to have an early birthday celebration.  It was triple digit heat most of the night but we had a great time!  Got to spend some time with my little friend, Crew – isn’t he precious! AND they brought a cookie cake for me – SO sweet and delicious!

It’s my birthday this Friday!  I have to say, I’m a little lot excited (in case you couldn’t tell).  These beautiful pink bottles put me in the mood to celebrate – what could be better than pink champagne?!

It wouldn’t be a birthday without…

petitfours

image

Petit Fours! There is just something about the petit four that is just better than a traditional cake in my opinion.  Maybe its the glaze style icing?  Maybe its just the happiness that washes over me when I am presented with one?  Either way, petit fours are just the best.

What are your birthday must haves?
